The role you’ll contribute:
The pharmacy practice resident’s primary role is to accelerate their growth beyond entry-level professional competence in patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services, and to further the development of leadership skills that can be applied in any position and in any practice setting. The resident will be held responsible and accountable for acquiring these outcome competencies: managing and improving the medication-use process; providing evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary teams; exercising leadership and practice management; demonstrating project management skills; providing medication and practice-related education/training; and utilizing medical informatics, conduct pharmacy practice research, exercise added leadership and practice management skills, demonstrate knowledge and skills particular to generalist practice in the home care practice environment, demonstrate knowledge and skills particular to generalist practice in the managed care practice environment, participate in the management of medical emergencies, contribute to formulary decisions, provide drug information to health care professionals and/or the public, demonstrate additional competencies that contribute to working successfully in the health care environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate willingness to take on additional responsibility with training of pharmacy students
- Participate in meetings and presentations involving pharmacy students and other staff members
- Provide patient education commiserate with patients’ learning assessment level
- Appropriately answer routine drug information questions that are received. Taken into consideration the requestor’s educational and professional background when formulating a response
- Conducts self in a manner that consistently displays politeness, attentiveness and professionalism
- Provide sufficient information and documentation to colleagues about specific patient care issues
- Display courtesy and respect by checking into the central pharmacy before reporting to assigned unit
- Demonstrate and convey a favorable image of the Medical Center
- Adhere to the hospitals absenteeism and tardiness guidelines. Report to work on time so that others are not unnecessarily burdened
- Consistently report errors or deviations from the patients plan of medical care using the hospitals’ electronic reporting program
- Assure that complete review of patient specific parameters is conducted prior to initiating a new medication
- Incorporate patient, physician and nursing needs and concerns into decision making and organization action
- Maintain a broad knowledge base of operational functions, including basic trouble shooting of the Pyxis® and Cerner® information systems
- Appropriately prioritize work so that STAT and urgent orders are handled before routine orders, and unnecessary delays do not occur
- Willingly incorporate the checking of STAT doses into work routine
- Demonstrate a commitment to the profession and to the quality of care provided by the department by participating in professional organizations and/or seminars
- Routinely participate in various care committees and share pharmaceutical knowledge base
- Participate in a broad array of hospital committees in order to gain experience in meeting facilitation
- Actively participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee
- Demonstrate efficient use of time by minimizing the amount of orders put on hold and delegating tasks to students and technicians whenever possible and appropriate
- Adhere to the hospital formulary intervening with the prescriber when necessary
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- PharmD
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
- Kansas Pharmacy License within 60 days of employment
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
- BCLS and ACLS obtained through the American Heart Association
