Job Summary
- Pharmacy Manager provides patient care consistent with applicable regulations and the mission of Avera by monitoring and recommending optimal medication therapy, processing patient medication orders, and providing pharmaceutical information to staff and patients related to specific job assignments.
- Must utilize effective problem-solving skills as appropriate and accept personal responsibility and accountability for the patient’s outcomes.
- Under the general supervision of the appropriate director or assistant vice-president within Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Manager oversees the clinical and distributive pharmacy services for their assigned service area in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of pharmacy.
- The manager is responsible for maintaining a hiring and retention plan for pharmacy personnel, ensuring that an effective schedule is in place, and adhering to a budget for operations and capital for the department.
- The manager will actively participate in appropriate management teams to ensure standardization and integration with other areas and facilities.
- The manager will also provide leadership or service to various committees of the organization such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics and other medical staff committees.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.
- Doctorate Degree preferred.
- 1-2 years relevant experience required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Pharmacist licensure in the state or states in which the pharmacist provides service required.
- American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Residency Certification preferred.
- Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties preferred.
