Description
Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the pharmacy manager/PIC is responsible for ensuring all prescriptions are filled according to order and regulations, accurately, and in a timely manner. They are responsible for compliance area related to Minnesota law, including compliance with DEA regulations. The pharmacy manager/PIC will oversee day to day operations of the department utilizing strong clinical knowledge and business acumen to help ensure MCC's sustainability. The pharmacy manager/PIC will be a participating member of MCC clinical and/or integrated roles. Moreover, it is the pharmacy manager/PIC's responsibility to assist with supervision and development their technician and pharmacist team.

  • Ensures that the MCC pharmacy department provides comprehensive care to patients by processing and accurately dispensing prescription orders, counseling patients regarding health care and prescription medication needs; and maintaining confidential information and required documentation
  • Is knowledgeable of all pharmacy systems e.g. PioneerRx, Parata, IVR, Centricity and serves as first line trouble shooting contact when available
  • While collaborating with the lead technician, ensures continual coaching/training/development of all technicians supervised
  • Is knowledgeable of all pharmacy operations and is able to adjust areas when needed to best meet organizational needs
  • Maintains current knowledge of Minnesota Board of Pharmacy requirements and is responsive to issues/requirements involving the Board
  • Maintains documentation of Pharmacist in Charge for site with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
  • Works closely with the Director of Pharmacy to evaluate workflow process and implement changes as necessary
  • Daily engagement (face to face/virtual patients, MCC care team members and allied staff)
  • Understands MCC's 340B program and works with Director of Pharmacy to promote continued viability and accountability of program
  • Self-directed and must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities in collaboration MCC care team members and organization leadership
  • May assist with department scheduling of pharmacists
  • Execute clinical protocols and collaborative practice agreements with MCC provider practice as allowed per state regulatory agencies
  • Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPPA and MCC standards
  • Optimization of patient drug coverage benefits for appropriate care and reduced costs (preferred MCC formulary products, lower cost alternatives and assistance with FHQC pricing options)
  • Demonstrate effective, culturally sensitive communication skills and effectively communicate verbally in writing with a variety of people
  • Participation in regular clinic team meetings and treatment plan development
  • Chronic disease state education for drug therapy and drug coverage updates
  • Support organization and market initiatives to assist in the management of high risk and complex care patients
  • Documentation within MCC electronic health record system and other necessary clinical management systems
  • Support CMS stars quality measures and other regulatory agency requirements
  • Know, understand and adhere to organizational policy related to the patient's confidential care
  • Ensure all laws and rules promoted by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy are complied with and enforced
  • Assist in training of residents, student interns and technicians

Supervisory Responsibilities
Works within scope of job description/responsibilities with general direction from Director of Pharmacy. Consults with others as appropriate. Oversees pharmacy technicians and pharmacy residents.
Work Environment
Primary environment is in an ambulatory health care setting. This role may come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
  • This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping throughout the day.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to perform computer-related work
  • Lifting weight up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently

Travel Requirements
Must have the ability to travel between MCC sites in the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy required
  • Completion of a PGY1 Residency or equivalent or equivalent clinical practice experience.
  • Current State of Minnesota pharmacy license required
  • Proof of COVID Vaccination Required, Religious and Medical exemption will be considered

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Clinical residency in ambulatory care or similar discipline
  • Familiarity with electronic health record system
  • Bilingual ability preferred (English/Spanish, English/Hmong)
  • Board certification preferred
  • Previous patient care experience preferred

Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with target population(s).
  • Change Agile; ability to operate in the gray and flex to new developments or situations.
