Job description

The Johns Hopkins Hospital, a 1,051 bed academic medical center, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine are the major components of the Johns Hopkins Health System, a vertically integrated, multi-institutional system for medical services delivery. It was one of the first non-profit, academically based healthcare systems of its kind in the country. The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 45 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 31 general and specialized pharmacy residents.
Reports to the Division Director and Operations Manager(s) for the assigned area. Monitors and supervises pharmacy technician daily activities. Makes necessary arrangements to keep workflow organized and efficient. Responsible for working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to promote wellness, maintain current health, and/or intervene in acute or chronic illness. Promotes the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning problems.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm D. or BS degree. Completion of an ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience is desired
  • Previous health-system experience with responsibility for the supervision of pharmacy personnel is desired
  • Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland required
  • Hospital and departmental education requirements completed within 90 days of hire. ACLS and/or PALS certification is desired
