This position is located in the Division of Clinical Services, Pharmacy Branch, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Antimicrobial Stewardship Ambulatory/Inpatient Pharmacist. The incumbent is primarily concerned with maintenance of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for the Service Unit, assisting with meeting Indian Health Service Chapter 39 and The Joint Commission(TJC)/Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.*Note: Current employees who are assigned to a position in the GS-0660 occupational series since September 30, 2017 may be considered if they do not currently hold a doctoral degree in Pharmacy.
Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: Applicant's qualifications background must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the work of the position. Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to:
- Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects;
- Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations;
- Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program;
- Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens;
- Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications;
- Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or
- Maintaining all medication records required by law.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Reviewing and optimizing pharmaceutical treatment plans by collaborating with medical staff making supportable clinical recommendations, provides direct clinical care for patients by performing a physical examination, taking a medical history, ordering tests such as labs, x-ray based on the examinations and medical history. Analyze medication regimens to ensure effective, least toxic and economical treatment plan. Making referrals to appropriate physicians/specialists after discussion with clinic physician and making arrangements for more examinations, writing prescriptions and changing medications, providing continuing education presentations to medical staff, performing clinical pharmacist duties of chronic care management utilizing granted medical staff privileges; providing population health care and preventative health.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Completed 2 years of residency in Infectious Disease or am Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy or Infectious Disease or have 3 years clinical experience in inpatient pharmacy and working with an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration.
