Student Health is a full service on campus primarily healthcare facility for UCSB students. We see students on both an appointment and walk in basis. Our auxiliary services included on-site laboratory, pharmacy, x-ray, lab and physical therapy. Our specialty services include psychiatry, gynecology, and sports medicine. An extensive alcohol and drug program compliments other behavioral health services.

Brief Summary of Job Duties
Performs all duties as a Staff Clinical Pharmacist in ambulatory care medicine. In the absences of the Pharmacy Manager, may be required to provide back-up management and supervisory assistance.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited pharmacy school or college of pharmacy or equivalent.
- Current License from CA Board of Pharmacy.
- 1-3 years of experience as a registered pharmacist.

- Student Health requires that clinical staff must successfully complete and pass the background check and credentialing process before employment and date of hire.
- Mandated reporting requirements of Child Abuse.
- Mandated reporting requirement of Dependent Adult Abuse.
- To comply with Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Health Officer Order, this position must provide evidence of annual influenza vaccination, or wear a surgical mask while working in patient care areas during the influenza season.
- Any HIPAA and/or FERPA violation is subject to disciplinary action.
- Student Health is closed between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
Pharmacy Services 95%
Utilizes clinical pharmacy skills to critically evaluate the appropriate drug, dose, quantity, directions based on patient information such as age, gender, allergies, etc.- Counsels and advises patients on the prescription drug, dose, directions for use, side effects, precautions and drug interactions.
- Dispenses prescription medications according to state and federal laws and regulations.
- Dispenses controlled substance prescriptions and maintains accurate inventory records in accordance with departmental policy, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Consults and advises patients on the selection and use of non-prescription medications, side effects, precautions and drug interactions.
- Prepares sterile injectables or other medications requiring pharmacist skill.
- Assists in maintaining adequate inventory, while minimizing waste.
- Assists in purchasing pharmaceuticals, biologicals, and vaccines.
- Assists in maintaining safe and effective medications by ensuring expired or recalled medications are removed from inventory.
- Generates prescription labels, records patient and prescription information and creates and maintains prescription records utilizing pharmacy software.
- Assists in monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory and reconciliation.
- Provides comprehensive clinical pharmacy knowledge to Student Health clinicians and other ancillary health professionals as well as provides drug information about medications including indication, appropriate dosing and directions, side effects, availability and therapeutic alternatives or options to optimize or adjust drug therapy.
- Checks prescriptions for accuracy prior to pharmacy technicians releasing medication to patients.
- Evaluates brand versus generic options for cost effective selection of products.
- Motivates fellow staff and others in order to ensure that students receive optimal pharmaceutical care.
- Provides UC SHIP insurance prescription services information.
- Furnishes a range of health services directly to patients as authorized under the California Business and Professions Code and the California Code of Regulations. This includes but is not limited to the following: birth control, emergency contraception, naloxone, vaccinations, nicotine replacement products, anticoagulation management, PrEP and PEP medications, and travel medications.
- Adapts to and incorporates any additional services authorized by the California Board of Pharmacy as it pertains to the practice of pharmacy.
- Other duties as directed by the pharmacy director or their designee.
