Position Summary
The Pet-Inclusive Housing Initiative (PIHI) was created to conduct research and develop resources that demonstrate the benefits of pet-friendly housing to owners/operators, residents, and communities. From this research, we are developing resources and partnerships that seek to increase the availability of pet-friendly rental housing in the United States. After launching our initial report in July of 2021, we are busy activating those results and developing relationships with owners/operators so that we can demonstrate the mutual benefits of making more of their rental units available to pet owners with dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds.

The PIHI Research Intern position will report to the Program Director, PIHI, and is responsible for supporting the team in conducting research to inform activities that help keep pets and their owners together. This role will be critical in gathering and synthesizing new information that continues to build the case for why pets in rental housing is a good idea for everyone.
You will:
The PIHI Research Intern will be responsible for performing the below tasks. While these are the core duties for this role, the PIHI Research Intern is not limited to only performing what is captured here; we think growth is good. You should too!
  • Report to the Program Director, PIHI to support the execution of qualitative and quantitative research projects
  • Identify and analyze existing pet policies at rental housing organizations through phone calls and internet research
  • Contact owners/operators and pet owners to explore benefits and challenges related to pets and rental housing
  • Learn about and document insurance companies' policies affecting pets and rental housing that are used by
  • Capture research results using spreadsheets and through clearly written summaries
