Pest Control Operator/Pest Control Technician job description overview:
The PCO and Pest Control Technician will be responsible for monitoring and controlling all pest activity on the site. Pests to be controlled are defined as:

· Objectionable animals, particularly rodents (mice, rats, ground squirrels, etc.) that may damage products and structures, vector disease, or create unsafe ground conditions on the site.
· Birds that may vector diseases or parasites.
· Unwanted vegetation (weeds) that may provide harborage for pests around poultry houses and processing plant
The PCO and Pest Control Technician will be responsible for maintaining records of all operations performed and will review trending of pest data to assess program effectiveness, recognize increasing pest pressure, and take proactive steps to control pests before corrective action levels are reached. Records to be maintained include, but are not limited to:
· Interior monitoring trap service log
· Exterior bait station service log
· Fly index logs
· Pesticide application logs
· Training logs for self and Designated Pest Control Technicians
· Documentation of corrective actions when corrective action thresholds are met
The PCO and Pest Control Technician will determine and apply, with guidance from the Compliance Manager or an outside Pest Control Advisor, appropriate methods of controlling pests on the site. Any use of pesticides or other control methods will be performed in strict adherence to state and federal law, product labeling specifications, and applicable safety regulations. Control methods may include:
· Use of baits or traps to kill or capture unwanted insects or rodents
· Use of insecticide sprays or insect growth regulators to control unwanted insect populations
· Use of herbicide sprays to control unwanted vegetation and maintain a minimum four-foot-wide weed-free area around all structures
· Use of mechanical controls (mowing, cultivation, etc.) to control vegetation, eliminate harborage areas and destroy burrows/nesting areas
· Use of barriers, visual deterrents, sound-emitting deterrents, etc., to discourage wild bird activity on the site
· Ensuring that buildings are properly sealed against rodent or insect entries
· Other methods as necessary
The PCO and Pest Control Technician will maintain all required licensing necessary to apply pesticides and will attend any required continuing education courses to keep licensing current. Additionally, the PCO will be responsible for filing any usage reports, intent to apply reports, or other documentation necessary to comply with the laws of the state.
The PCO and Pest Control Technician will be the point of contact for any pest sightings on the site. When notified by the Production or Processing staff of any pest concern (i.e., a wild bird in a poultry house, mouse activity in houses or the plant, insect swarms, etc.), the PCO will take appropriate action to remove or control the pest(s).
