Job Summary
This position is part of a team responsible for planning of the LIPA 4kV and 13kV distribution system on Long Island. This position offers challenging opportunities and problem solving scenarios where the engineer will be able to incorporate and observe his or her creative ideas come to fruition. The distribution planning position pioneers the future by analyzing and integrating the innovative technologies into the system. On the job training and adequate guidance are provided to engineers as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not be limited to, the following:
  • Recommend changes to the distribution system to optimize performance, maintain safety, increase reliability and minimize environmental impact.
  • Support the 5 year Capital Budget Plan.
  • Responsible for voltage and contingency studies (voltage, load flow, short circuit) involving LIPA distribution system.
  • Identify and resolve weaknesses within the LIPA distribution system, by designing and issuing projects in order to meet distribution design criteria.
  • Development of the 3-year summer and winter feeder and bank load forecast.
  • Support Electric Service Operations as requested and resolving operating concerns during peak operating conditions.
  • Preparing Purpose and Necessity statements and One-line diagrams for new distribution and substation projects.
  • This position requires to conduct Distributed Energy Resources studies for interconnection customers within a certain time frame. In addition, this project will support transmission planning initiatives.

Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years experience
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office
  • Must demonstrate clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
  • Must demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Must demonstrate strong planning and organization skills
  • Must be adaptable and results-oriented
  • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driving history

Desired:
  • Knowledge of electric transmission, resource, substation, and distribution systems and equipment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with distribution system planning models (CYME) for load flow, voltage, short circuit and contingency analyses is preferred, as well as knowledge of engineering economics fundamentals necessary to evaluate alternative system proposals.
  • Knowledge of Python Programming, VBA, SQL and C++ is preferred
