Visual Impaired Support
Description:
A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) assists a student with self-sufficiency, communication, interpersonal, social, academic, and mobility skills.
Encourages, supports, and educates the student by assisting him/her in performance of daily living activities necessary for her/his comfort, well-being, cooperation with peers and authority figures, and integrity.
Assists student in managing and maintaining his/her environment to meet special physical and psychological needs.
Completes duties of a classroom assistant when student is absent and/or travels to other location(s) as needed.
Assists teachers and/or student to arrange environment of room to best meet student’s needs.
Attends training sessions, in-service, and/or workshops designed for assistants working with individual students.
Participates in regular staff meetings, if appropriate.
Reads, understands, and is responsible for implementing and documenting behavior plan and/or individualized education program, as appropriate.
Follows direction of classroom teacher and program supervisor.
The PCA assists a student in accessing their educational program which could include assistance with balance, visual perceptual activities, fine and/or gross motor skills, boarding/exiting school van, prompts to stay focused.

Qualifications:
HS diploma/GED required; must obtain "qualified" status within one (1) year from date of hire.
"Qualified" means having an associate's degree or higher; or having completed 2 years of postsecondary study; or meeting a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment (CAPE test or Certificate of Competency).
All paraprofessionals must also complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to their assignment each school year in order to continue employment.
All Personal Care Assistants must hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certification and keep same current. The LIU will provide the proper training necessary if candidate does not already have it.
Terms:
Full Time/188 days; 7 hour work day, follows traditional school year schedule. Monday - Friday, no nights, weekends, holidays, or summer.
Salary:
TA/PCA Pay Scale (minimum $14.50 per hour, plus comprehensive benefits package)
