This Position: The Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides non-medical home care services to clients of Royal Home Care LLC, dba Griswold Home Care for Oahu (RHC). Personal Care Aides may perform Personal Care services and/or homemaker services as described in more detail below.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Performs tasks and activities in client's residence as detailed in the Client Requested Services, Care Plan:
- Personal care activities may include personal hygiene and grooming, such as bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, hair care, and dressing; and assistance with toileting, ambulation, mobility, transfers, positioning, exercise, and range of motion activities
- Homemaker activities may include routine housekeeping, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, making beds, washing dishes, cleaning toilets and bathrooms, disposing of rubbish, organizing household items to make client's access to such items easier and safer, especially for frequently used items; washing, drying, ironing, and mending clothing and linens; shopping for household supplies, clothing, and personal essentials; running errands and picking up medications; shopping for food and preparing meals; driving and escorting client to medical appointments, nutritional programs, or recreational/social activities; providing reminders for medication, diet restrictions, or recommended exercises; assisting client with eating and drinking
- Other responsibilities may include safety supervision, reading, writing, typing, use of a mobile device, tablet or laptop, visiting/providing companionship, conversing, playing games, doing puzzles
- Communicates and builds a good rapport with clients and others responsible for client's care
- Reports any changes in client's condition to Supervisor and Agency office
- Reports to work on time and with a clean, well-groomed appearance
Essential Skills:
- Language and literacy skills adequate to communicate needs and requests of the client
- Able to read and understand the client's Care Plan
- Able to communicate via telephone and/or text messages with Agency office
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds and alternate from stationary to traverse positions often and for extended periods of time
- Able to prepare simple meals
- Able to demonstrate appropriate cleaning technique for home environment
- Capable of working independently and/or with a team
Necessary Qualifications and Attributes:
- Reliable transportation to and from a client's residence
- For clients requiring transportation, must have a valid driver's license and positive driving record
- Strong desire to help others
- Able to demonstrate empathy for vulnerable older adults and disabled or injured individuals
- Able to support client's need or desire to be independent
- Able to demonstrate patience and maintain a cheerful outlook while with the client
- Punctual and hard working
Conditions of Employment:
- Criminal background check in accordance with state regulations
- Tuberculosis (TB) clearance that meets the Hawaii Department of Health TB Control Program
- Drug testing
Educational Background/Knowledge/Prior Experience:
- PCA or CNA certification or equivalent coursework approved by the State of Hawaii Department of Health
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Prior working experience as a Human Services Professional or Worker is a plus.
