We’re seeking a Permitting Specialist/Wetland Scientistto join our widely respected and diverse Environmental Division at one of our western New York offices (Pittsford, NY, Buffalo, NY, or Binghamton, NY).

You will be involved in environmental reviews and permitting for a variety of infrastructure projects, including renewable energy development, bridge, highway, and airport improvements. This position offers the opportunity to lead and manage field work (such as wetland delineations, wildlife habitat evaluations, vernal pool surveys, geomorphic stream assessments, and vegetation surveys), and prepare technical reports, environmental documents, and permit applications. You should be a proficient technical writer and adept at utilizing technology such as handheld GPS units and ESRI GIS software. We prefer that you have a working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, such as the NY Freshwater Wetlands Act, US Army Corps Nationwide and Individual Permits, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and state-level environmental review policies such the NY State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR). This position offers outstanding growth potential, with opportunities for increasing technical and management responsibilities.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Geology, or another directly related field required.
  • 3 or more years of demonstrable professional experience in wetland delineation, permitting, or other natural resources related field required.
  • Practical experience with wetland delineation is strongly preferred.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist licensure is highly desirable.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills, excellent speaking and organizational skills, and an ability to work efficiently alone and as part of a team, performing work accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Willing and able to work in a variety of settings, including a typical office environment, as well as in the field, where you are physically active and exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
  • Willing to complete field work requiring intermittent travel throughout the northeastern United States and occasionally further afield such as our expanding southeast region.
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing required.

Pay Range:

The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to the candidate's work location, relevant experience, educational background, licensure or certifications, and capabilities compared to the requirements of the advertised position.

Pay Range: $30 - $36 / hour
