Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a mid-level Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our east coast Enviro Socio Permitting team. The successful candidate will support the development of desktop reviews and wetland/natural resources permit applications in New Jersey, New York State, New York City, and coordinate and lead field data collection and wetland/waterbody delineations and endangered species habitat assessments in support of permit applications and environmental compliance documents, and preparation of reports to document field data collection. This role will primarily support Arcadis' Enviro Socio Permitting team working with linear and other infrastructure and potentially renewable energy clients in New York, New Jersey, and New York City. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The position will require a candidate to work both collaboratively with a team of resource specialists, planners, and engineers and have the capacity to balance varying priorities and tasks to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deliverable deadlines. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and/or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks and teams.

Role accountabilities:

As a mid-level Environmental Permitting Specialist, you will apply your experience and technical knowledge to work with client teams to provide high quality deliverables to support planning and permitting for major utility, infrastructure, government and key Arcadis clients. You will be an important member of the east coast Enviro Socio Permitting team, who may also support the Water Resiliency group, interacting with junior level biologists/ecologists, engineers, senior technical experts, and project managers as part of an interdisciplinary team. 

Primary functions will include:

  • Manage desktop environmental assessments using current assessment technologies and methods to identify potential permitting requirements and support development of permitting strategy to provide guidance to internal teams and clients.
  • Use your strong technical writing and communications skills to develop technical reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents to support permitting. Likely to include the preparation of regulatory permit application, review requests, or other regulatory compliance packages (e.g., City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Clean Water Act Section 401, 402, 404, and Rivers and Harbors Act Sections 10 and 14).
  • Provide task management to assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work and data.
  • Support or lead agency consultations for threatened and endangered species, historic and cultural resources, and to develop permitting and survey strategies.

This role will be a hybrid work structure as discussed above; however, as needed, you may need to conduct field assessments related to ecological or general aspects of projects. This may require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours. This role may require the ability to travel.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Environmental or Land Use planning, or related field
  • Five years of experience in the environmental or consulting field
  • Relevant regional experience in preparing applications and obtaining permits a variety of departments in New York City, New York State, and New Jersey
  • Experience with evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and environmental and regulatory processes - federal, state, and local regulators such as USACE, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) as well as experience with New York City CEQR. 
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications and particularly experience with linear projects (e.g., utility projects, pipeline projects, transportation projects, etc.). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and seven years of environmental consulting experience
  • Experience preparing applications and obtaining permits from a variety of departments for projects in New York State

The salary range for this position is $70800 - $122130.
