ABOUT THE JOB

The Performance Improvement Professional (PIP) is responsible for leading the discovery, adoption, implementation, and evaluation of PATIENT SAFETY priorities within MU Health Care to ensure patient care delivery is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered.

 

SALARY RANGE  $68,266 - $111,426

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

       Lead PATIENT SAFETY initiatives and achievement of system quality goals determined by national priorities, and by organizational surveillance for and identification of gaps in care. Based on these initiatives and goals, develop, implement, evaluate, and re-design comprehensive PATIENT SAFETY improvements, with accountability for achieving MU Health organizational goals.

       Partner with administrative and clinical leaders across the system to focus on PATIENT SAFETY initiatives directed toward achieving system quality goals and governmental/regulatory requirements.

       Working with interdisciplinary teams, lead the design of PATIENT SAFETY interventions and innovations, test their feasibility and impact, and spread improvements across the health care system.

       Develop and implement surveillance methodologies that will successfully and continuously identify actual or potential system defects. When vulnerabilities are identified, direct thorough investigations, prioritize action plans, coordinate improvement efforts, and manage tests of change through to resolution.

       Disseminate lessons learned through internal and external scholarly products such as posters, presentations, or publications.

       May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

       Possess strong analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills, and work well in a team environment requiring a high degree of creativity and motivation.

       Facility expected in Microsoft Office applications supporting these skills (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word).

       Knowledge in medical terminology, disease processes, treatment protocols, and/or training of adult learners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in nursing, engineering, health management, business, or a related field; or

Bachelors degree and certification:

--Black Belt certification in Lean/Six Sigma; or

--Certification for Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ); or

--Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

Three (3) years of experience in PATIENT SAFETY, quality improvement, or supervision.

One of the following:

--Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days; or

--Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) or (RCP-T) licensure by the Missouri Respiratory Care board; or

--Licensed by the Missouri state regulatory board relevant to clinical background, if applicable, or registered health care professional, or other equivalent certification or degree.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Five (5) years of experience in a health care setting.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
