The Position
Kaufman Hall is seeking a Consultant in the Performance Improvement Practice in the Care Transitions/Case Management focus area who will work closely with our Subject Matter Experts (SME) to provide to our clients in all aspects of clinical operations that impact patient access, care coordination, utilization review, patient placement, discharge planning, denial management, and prevention. The Consultant will be primarily responsible for developing key process flows, designing supporting analyses, attending multidisciplinary rounds, and completing analytical work product used to drive the client’s strategic decision making. There will be exposure to multiple clients at any given time and will attend on-site meetings with Case Management staff and system/hospital level senior management as appropriate. The essential functions of the role are to:
- Drive client engagement with excellent project management skills to keep project VP, SVP, and workflow lead apprised of projects to ensure critical milestones are met, timelines are adhered to, and changes are properly communicated
- Build presentations and completed work product for presentation to client stakeholders, including operational leaders, executive leaders, or board members
- Develop analysis with actionable insights that support key recommendations during clinical redesign assessments and implementations
- Lead interviews with hospital administration and medical staff leaders; managing, validating, and organizing data collected both from clients, as well as third party vendors
- Key initiatives focused on effective patient Care Transitions
- Full immersion in the Kaufman Hall business model, including the software and analytical tools that support our recommendations
- Help create and apply industry-leading solutions to the most challenging strategic and organizational issues facing our clients
- Develop analytical fact-based research, thought leadership and best practices to support strategic decisions in a client-ready format
- Research and develop client-specific hypothesis, leveraging Kaufman Hall SME proprietary software and resources, to provide recommendations on strategic and financial planning and optimization
- An entrepreneurial spirit and support of internal development needs beyond client-specific work as required
The ideal candidate will possess progressive experience in and a passion for the healthcare industry, with previous consulting experience preferred. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a strong history of academic excellence and leadership, personally and professionally. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following:
- 8+ years of experience
- Previously served as a Case Management Supervisor/Leader in a healthcare setting.
- Experience as an RN or Social Worker.
- Previous consulting experience preferred.
- An in-depth understanding of key healthcare trends, information sources strategic planning and finance
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with close attention to detail and data integrity
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerBI
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- A highly intelligent individual with a substantial degree of intellectual curiosity
- A career-motivated professional who is energetic and possesses a superb work ethic
- A self-starter who can work well independently. Possesses a high level of self- confidence and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Strong people management and client relationship skills
- An outgoing individual who has excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; able to present effectively to senior management and boards, both on the phone, in person and across zoom/teams.

- When not travelling, the role is based remote or in Chicago, IL
- Work is regularly performed in a combination of office, home office, and client settings, and routinely uses standard office equipment.
- It may require the maintenance of a home office and proximity to an airport for work related travel.
