The Peer Specialist is a non-civil services position located within the General Sessions Court. In this capacity, the incumbent performs paraprofessional duties involved in providing various types of help to individuals and groups needing assistance to become and remain self-sufficient, making referrals as needed. Performs related duties as required.

Provide recovery education to Cherished HEARTS Participants.
Demonstrate that recovery is possible for both Participants and Staffing Team.
Assist Participants in identifying personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses.
Help Participants develop their own recovery plans.
Facilitate the transition to self-directed Recovery Plans.
Understand various 12 Step/Recovery Programs.
Promote self-advocacy for Participants.
Identify and support linkages to community resources.
Support connections to self-help groups.
Develop relationships with community groups/agencies.
Visit community resources with Participants.
Identify and overcome barriers to participation.
Maintain contact with Participants after they leave the program.
Provide ongoing community training opportunities.
Make recommendations to improve the CPRS role.
Maintain confidentiality.
Attend Staffing and Court meetings regularly.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of public contact work.
Tennessee Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist.
Successful candidates will have at least three years of sobriety in recovery experience, prior experience working with vulnerable populations preferred, specifically survivors of human trafficking and those at risk of sexual exploitation and is self-motivative and can work autonomously.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid Driver License may be required for some positions in this classification.
