Imaging has an opening for a part-time Pediatric Nurse (Resource Based). This role has No weekends. No holidays and No on-call responsibilities!
Schedule: This role is a .5 FTE. This role will typically work 5 days within two weeks and work 8 hour shifts. The hours for this role are Monday through Friday from 0730- 1600. No weekends. No holidays. No on-call responsibilities. The staffing plan for this role is supported by nurses who are able to be flexible with their schedule and willing to pick up extra shifts to support staff vacancies and PPL.
Responsibilities:
The Resource based Imaging Nurse has a key role in supporting the patient journey through the Imaging Department at the Milwaukee Hospital Campus. The role includes pre-appointment research to make sure the patient is scheduled correctly and has all of the necessary resources. The Resource based nurse also helps prepare patients for sedation with pre-procedure phone calls and messaging. The nurses also complete follow-up phone calls to check in the patient after sedation or general anesthesia.
The Resource based Imaging Nurse also fulfills all of the responsibilities of the Imaging Nurse including assisting with sedation and general anesthesia procedures in the Imaging Department of the Milwaukee Campus. The nurse supports patient care in CT, Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopy and Ultrasound. This includes but is not limited to patient history and assessment, IV starts and urinary catheterization.
Job Summary:
The Imaging Pediatric nurse functions with demonstrated expertise in providing nursing care and/or consultation to the pediatric patients hospital-wide, who are cared for in the imaging department. The nurse is a recognized resource for consultation to nursing and physician services both within CHW and the community. The nurse is also expected to utilize the nursing process to assess patients prior to procedures or scans, prioritizing the need for and providing nursing care to patients undergoing procedures or exam within the Imaging Department. The nurse is expected to function within professional and hospital standards.
Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an ADN or a BSN in order to meet the recommended entry level for a professional nurse (or equivalent academic and/or professional experience). A BSN is preferred.
  • A license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin or must have temporary permit/license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Knowledge of the principles of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent growth and development and child/family responses to fear, illness, injury and hospitalization.
  • Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required. Certification in PALS (American Heart Association) within 3 months of hire.
  • Requires three years nursing experience with a minimum of two years in critical care/emergency room and/or pediatric sedation. An applicant with greater than 10 years of general pediatric experience would also be considered.
  • Analytical skills that are necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care. Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.
  • The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services.
  • Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data. Ability to have flexible hours and be on-call for Interventional Radiology or MRI to meet patient care needs.
  • Assists in setting expected standards of performance within the Imaging Department. Contributes to the evaluation of orientation and on-going staff development needs.
  • Ability to coordinate and deliver complex care utilizing a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Ability to operate, interpret and trouble-shoot a wide variety of patient care equipment.
