$10,000 Hiring Bonus 

Schedule - Monday - Friday - 8am to 5pm

Children's is searching for a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer to perform cardiac ultrasound exams (echoes) to facilitate quality patient care for patients of all ages requiring cardiac evaluation. Rotates on-call responsibilities after hours and on weekends to perform studies or provide testing as requested.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs echoes and completes all measurements to produce a preliminary report for patients of various ages. Responsible to take call on a rotational basis to perform studies or provide test resulting as requested.
  • Perform high quality exams and produce preliminary summary the same day as ordered unless otherwise specified by Cardiology physician.
  • Echocardiograms are performed in a method consistent with department protocols and ASE/ICAEL guidelines.
  • Provide patient/caregiver education to relieve apprehension and improve cooperation during exam.
  • Is on site within 30-60 minutes of call back to perform procedures unless otherwise specified by physician.
  • Responds to page within 5-10 minutes time frame when on-call for procedures.
  • Rotates to outreach/contract sites to perform ECHO's as requested.
  • Coordinates smooth flow of procedure, scheduling and completion in inpatient, clinic, outpatient, emergency department, outreach and offsite facilities to meet the needs of the patient/caregiver, physician, and other professionals.
  • Procedures are scheduled based on priority of patient needs.
  • Procedure is explained to patient and caregiver at an understandable level and in a timely manner.
  • Sonographer is available and ready for patient when they arrive for their procedure preventing any delays.
  • Communicates effectively and timely with physician.
  • Participates in exam review with the physician for interpretation when points of interest need to be discussed.
  • Uses good judgment and applies critical value criteria when determining the need to notify MD of test results prior to patient leaving area.
  • Communication is provided in a timely manner and accurately portrays procedure findings.
  • Performs a variety of functions in support of the Echo Lab and Cardiology Department.
  • Electronic logs updated daily and in a timely manner as the works is completed.
  • Repairs and maintenance needs are reported to appropriate persons as soon as is reasonable to prevent extended downtime.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion to comply with infection control regulations and to present a professional look to patients and families by disinfecting room and probes after each use, restocking supplies if necessary, and good handwashing.
  • Performs professional, clinic instruction of fellows and students by performing and assisting with hands-on instruction when appropriate.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/customer information. 
  • Addresses non-compliance with regulatory, department and organization standards.
  • Meets mandatory department and organization job requirements within established time frames (i.e., physicals, annual mandatory reviews, licensure/certifications, and CPR).
  • Participates in 75% of Town Hall and staff meetings.
  • Understands, supports, and practices staff, visitor, patient, and vendor identification policy.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements in accordance with ARDMS guidelines. 
  • Adhere to departmental on-call/call back policies as written.
  • Actively listens to others with attentiveness and concern for what they are saying.  Does not interrupt others while they are speaking.

  • Attends monthly Echo Lab meetings, ICAL monthly education meetings and ICAL quarterly QA meetings.
  • Attends other departmental meetings as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of congenital heart defects preferred.
  • Typing skills and data entry experience preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of cardiology equipment and procedures at a level normally acquired through completion of 2-4 years of specialized courses beyond high school, as found in an echocardiography program required.
  • Cardiac Sonography Registered (ARDMS) or registry-eligible echo cardiographer with two years echo experience preferred. 
  • Previous Pediatric experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Adult Echocardiography (AE) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required within 6 months.  Candidates or employees with current and active PE certification will fulfill this requirement.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required within 2 years of hire.
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employees who are identified as high frequency drivers, must have valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record and ability to provide own transportation.
