Position Overview:
PBMR is seeking a passionate and skilled Communications and Marketing Director to join our team. The Communication and Marketing Director is responsible for creating, directing, and implementing communication and Marketing strategies to ensure that PBMR’s story and mission is shared effectively with all partners and stakeholders. This key leadership role will report directly to the Director of Mission Advancement and will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies to promote and share the work of PBMR and elevate the needs of the community.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications:
- Direct all aspects of communication and Marketing within the PBMR network by being in relationship and communication with various stakeholders, staff, participants, and partners invested in the work of hospitality, hope, and healing in the community.
- Develop annual communications plan to effectively engage stakeholders in an intentional manner that furthers the mission and brings needed support to the Back of the Yards/New City and Englewood Communities.
- Manage PBMR social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to share program updates, information, and connect with followers
- Write and design monthly PBMR e-newsletters to share highlights and stories in the ministry with donors and supporters in the broader PBMR network
- Write and coordinate the design of PBMR print communications, both internal and external (Including but not limited to annual reports, post cards, appeal mailers, brochures, banners, flyers, etc.)
- Manage the PBMR website through updating information, building pages for new programs, monitoring inquiries form, and strengthening PBMR’s digital visibility
- Document events and program updates around PBMR through photography, written narrative, interviews, video, and other creative outlets
- Manage database of PBMR photos, videos, and archives
Serve as communications liaison with community partner organizations and stakeholders to foster strong collaboration in mission of restorative justice
Maintain and grow PBMR’s presence in the media through fostering relationships with local and national media outlets, reporters, and other relevant media outlets
Create press releases, manage media inquiries, and coordinate all written, phone, and video interviews to ensure that the work of PBMR is being shared effectively and accurately through media outlets
Serve as liaison and facilitator for all partnerships in written, visual, photo, and video documentation of the work and community of PBMR
Fundraising Support:
Serve in a leadership role along with Director of Mission Advancement to plan and execute successful donor engagement and fundraising events.
Coordinate fundraising event logistics (vendors, off-site facilities, etc.) and program development (i.e. speakers, entertainment, etc.)
Develop and implement communication plans for fundraising campaigns and events through print, digital, and environmental visual and written communications.
Collaborate with members of the mission advancement team to ensure direct mail, grant applications, reports, appeals, etc. are accurate, engaging, and reflect PBMR voice.
Other Communications Support:
Support various PBMR programs in communicating events, offerings, and updates with various stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications:
Ability to be a good steward of resources (receipts, credit cards, office computers & equipment, supplies, etc.)
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. (Mission Advancement)
Proficient computer use including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.), social media platforms, web site maintenance, etc.
Graphic design experience a plus
Always maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrate a high attention to detail & thorough in completing work tasks.
Must be able to work both independently and as part of the PBMR team.
Experience developing and retaining relationships with partner organizations, media, donors, etc.
Imaginative, dynamic, professional with a passion for the PBMR mission.
Critical thinking skills
Knowledge of nonprofit organizational and program development. (Mission Advancement)
Creative and self-starting about how to expand the reach and mission of PBMR (Mission Advancement)
Knowledge of Chicago & communities with histories of violence, experience in Back of the Yards & Englewood neighborhoods preferred.
Interest in and commitment to restorative justice principles (Mission Advancement)
Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media, and website management. (Mission Advancement)
Ability to meet deadlines.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. (Mission Advancement)
Other details:
Ability to successfully complete and pass a background screening prior to being hired.
Flexible schedule - this position requires some nights and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
