As a Payroll and Tax Accountant, you will be responsible for the preparation, disbursement, and accurate processing of Payroll and review of payroll-related tax filings for Orion. Responsibilities also include ensuring Workday accurately processes of all payroll tax payments and filings in accordance with various regulations and deadlines. This position will also provide investigations and resolution of all payroll tax related inquiries received within our multi-company/multi-state environment using electronic Payroll and time and attendance systems. In this role, you'll get to:
- Process semi-monthly pre-payroll processing including collection and input of data, balancing, and verifying payroll
- Process employee time records from the time system to Payroll and reconciles variances utilizing tools within the systems
- Process garnishment calculations and maintains compliance
- Periodically check for and follow up on unclaimed payroll checks
- Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation for monthly, quarterly, year-end, and additional payrolls when necessary (941, W-2's, W-3, ACA reporting, etc.)
- Register with approved state and local tax jurisdictions for payroll-related accounts and updates as necessary
- Review payroll tax payments and filings in accordance with various regulations and deadlines
- Be responsible for the accurate preparation of all required federal, state and local tax forms and reports
- Be responsible for the investigation and resolution of all payroll tax related inquiries received
- Create and review financial and operational reporting as needed
- Process manual checks, corrections, expenses (relocation, reimbursements, etc.), and Taxable fringe items
- Work with Accounting to reconcile payroll
- Load import files as necessary
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of payroll, thereby minimizing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Cross train team members in payroll administration duties
- Develop in-depth understanding of payroll database to be able to create Ad-Hoc reports on demand
- Process employee verification of employment (VOE) requests
- Distribute checks to employees via delivery or mail
- Provide customer service to employees in the area of pay, benefits and Taxes as they relate to their pay, how to enter time or time off, where to locate forms and information on company's intranet, where to send completed forms, who to contact for benefit questions and how to obtain IRS instructions on withholding issues
- Research and resolve file errors for payroll connection files
- Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to promote continual improvement in efficiency of department and services performed
- Network with other payroll leaders to share best practices and keep the payroll function at the forefront of all regulatory and compliance change
- Understand company and HR trends and causes, and provide HR/executive management with metrics and recommendations as applicable
- Design and produce standard and ad hoc payroll reports, metrics and dashboards using appropriate reporting tools
- Conduct various audits including personnel actions, worker's compensation, internal compliance, payroll, etc.
- Maintain integrity of data systems through periodic reporting and reconciliation
- Complete accurate and timely processing of payroll for all team members, including regular pay, overtime, bonuses and other compensation in compliance with multiple state and local jurisdictions
- Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures to ensure documentation and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate team member data and compliance with state specific requirements, including new hires, separations, classifications and changes in compensation or benefits
- Assist in the development and maintenance of internal controls to safeguard the accuracy and reliability of financial statements
- Review and approval of global payroll
- Partner with HRIS team to research, recommend, test and deploy payroll processes
We're looking for talent who has:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and payroll/tax regulations
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices
- Working knowledge of Workday or similar payroll system
- Knowledge and understanding of federal and multi-state payroll laws and regulations
- Knowledge and strong understanding of Payroll and accounting practices and principle
- Ability to communicate with various levels of management
- Decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to establish, manage and maintain internal positive customer relationships
- Ability to effectively resolve issues in a timely manner using sound judgment and critical thinking skill
- Ability to demonstrate high degree of integrity and manage and maintain confidentiality
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Human Resources, or related field required
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or willingness to obtain within first year of employment
- Ability to oObtain Orion Industry Certification
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with payroll software and systems
- Experience with multi-state payroll taxes (including registration, payments and quarterly/annual reconciliations) required
- Experience with Workday strongly preferred
- Experience working within Financial Services industry preferred
- Owns and manages relationships with stakeholders directly and work effectively with people at all levels in an organization

Salary Range:
$53,633.00 - $78,768.00
The pay listed in this posting indicates the estimated pay at the time of this posting; however, may vary depending on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
