Job Summary


The Patient Safety Professional performs various analytic, technical, and professional duties. Work is performed independently with decision-making responsibility and judgment under the general direction of the Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Medical and Regulatory Affairs.

The Patient Safety Professional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analysis, evaluation, research, and coordination of projects requiring action from the Chief Medical Officer, Medical and Regulatory Affairs, and/or Medical Staff committees
  • Creates, edits, summarizes, and validates extremely sensitive and confidential documents containing issues regarding the Medical Staff, peer review, quality of care, patients, and the Medical Center’s license and accreditation
  • Document preparation for the review of the Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Staff; Committee Chairs, and committees, which are subject to the scrutiny and evaluation of surveyors and investigators from accrediting, licensing, and regulatory agencies
  • Responsible for knowledge of the standards and regulations contained in Title 22, California Administrative Code, The Joint Commission, National Committee on Quality Assurance, and Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff
  • Participates in special projects for which the Chief Medical Officer and Medical and Regulatory Affairs Director are responsible
  • Medical Staff Quality, Patient Safety, Efficiency Analyst
  • Management of patient complaints, incident reports, state-reportable events
  • Manage Bioethics

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a Medical Staff Office or other related setting
  • Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS)
  • Strong leadership skills to achieve organizational results with people in a manner that establishes positive rapport and professional working relationships
  • Knowledge and skill with quality and safety project management, independently managing multiple projects from inception to completion, directing and coordinating the efforts of others
  • Ability to write well
  • Ability to listen to and participate in complex, clinical discussions and understand the key issues, the decisions, and the actions to be taken, using tact and diplomacy to meet the needs of hospital personnel and external review agents
  • Must possess excellent people skills
  • Ability to be highly organized, work well under pressure, and independently prioritize tasks per department and Medical Center goals and mission, adjusting, as necessary to meet deadlines
  • Ability to review, revise, comprehend, and implement actions required by UCDMC policies, procedures, and forms to achieve desired results
  • Demonstrated and proven advanced knowledge of Windows and Windows-based applications with proven proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation graphics software, and maintenance of intranet websites
  • Proven ability to remain motivated when dealing with individuals with different priorities
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission, National Committee on Quality Assurance, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, California Administrative Code Title 22 Regulations, and other regulatory agency standards


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS)

Medical and Regulatory Affairs does the work of the Organized Medical Staff, which is accountable for the quality of health care provided at UCDMC and is subject to the ultimate authority of the Chancellor of the University of California, Davis, the President, and the Regents of the University of California.
