Supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct Patient Care and performing studies and tests as assigned. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific. The Student Nurse - Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing care for patients of diverse ages. Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
The Hyperbaric Safety Director administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider. This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Delivers assigned Patient Care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
2. Performs or assists patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, and range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
3. Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs. Assures patient safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
4. Calculates intake and output (excluding IVs). Measures vital signs. Performs bedside blood glucose testing. Makes entries to patient health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.
5. Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
6. Performs post-mortem care.
7. Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures. Prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers. Discharges patients from system.
8. Observes and reports information regarding any change in physical/mental condition, behavior, or status of the patient to the nurse.
9. Collects and labels specimens.
10. Sets up, operates, and maintains selected pieces of equipment
11. Performs hyperbaric chamber operator duties. This includes:
a. Preparing, educating and orienting patients about the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
b. Lifting or transferring patients per local policy, getting them ready for treatment administration and answering their questions.
c. Administering the hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider to
the patient.
d. Monitoring and controlling the performance of the hyperbaric
chamber equipment, as well as monitoring the patient(s)’responses during the session and
making proper adjustments to ensure the patient’s safety and the safe and effective use of
the equipment
e. Making appropriate data entries for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic
visits, and keeping complete and accurate patient records
f. Operating and maintaining the hyperbaric chamber(s) and other hyperbaric support oxygen
systems as required
g. Participating in the safety program, such as conducting safety drills
Completion of 75-hour, 120-hour or 150-hour Certified Nursing Assistant program OR be listed as having passed CNA competency testing on the Iowa Direct Care Worker registry.
Currently enrolled in an RN program or a Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program, certification as an EMT in the State of Iowa, active listing on the National EMT registry, prior completion of an EMT certification, OR formally holding a medical occupational specialty from the military may be substituted for completion of CNA program and CNA Registry.
Must be 16 years of age.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire
