Salary: Patient Care Technician
REPORT TO: OR Charge Nurse
JOB SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician will be assigned job duties to assist with the effectiveness and efficiency of the surgical experience of the patient. Under direction of RN’s, the assistant will prepare instruments 1. and supplies for surgical procedures and assist with Patient Care as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience is desirable.
Must be CPR certified.
Applicant must be able to follow direction and have good interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work independently on assigned duties.
PHYSICAL GUIDELINES:
Include ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours per day; bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in turning, rising from recliners and stretchers, assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, push wheelchairs, and assist with the moving of patients on and off the operating room table. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
INFECTION CONTROL CATEGORY:
This job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks.
A. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

B. JOB DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
OPERATING ROOM:
1. Run DART in autoclaves at the beginning of each day.
3. Maintain excellent physical and mental health.
4. Display professionalism at work and in the community, as a representative of the Center.
5. Organize daily work into order of priority.
6. Take initiative in helping team members to provide the best care for the patient.
7. Use supplies and resources in a cost effective manner.
B. JOB DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
OPERATING ROOM:
1. Run DART in autoclaves at the beginning of each day.
2. Wipe down flat surfaces in OR's with germicidal solution at the start of each day.
3. Assist with turnover after each procedure. Work with team members to insure the most efficient use of each member's time.
4. Wash instruments and set up trays.
5. Sterilize instruments between cases.
6. Assist in positioning and movement of patients under the direction of the OR nurse.
7. Organize supplies and equipment for surgical procedures, according to physician preference.
8. Terminally sterilize instruments at the end of the day.
9. Restock supplies in OR daily.
10. Keep workroom neat and clean. Order supplies for the workroom as needed.
3. Assist with turnover after each procedure. Work with team members to insure the most efficient use of each member's time.
