UChicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital located in Hyde Park, is a state-of-the-art 172-bed hospital dedicated to caring for infants, children, teens, and young adults. Offering a range of services from general care to groundbreaking treatments for the most complex medical conditions, Comer Children's is home to the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center on Chicago's South Side.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago is a state-of-the-art facility, with 29 general PICU beds. The PICU team directs the care of these critically ill children together with consulting services from across the hospital, including both medical and surgical subspecialties (pediatric surgery, cardiac surgery, trauma surgery, ENT, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery).
Essential Job Functions:
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, care center and sector leadership, and other health care professionals and departments.

- Uses a broad theoretical knowledge base and the principles of patient centered care to assist in the establishment of patient centered care standards.
- Demonstrates clinical and leadership skills, serving as a role model for staff members.
- Recognizes and identifies clinical practice problems and facilitates solutions.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget within established guidelines.
- Schedules staff in accordance with Patient Care needs and union contracts.
- Provides and supports an environment which encourages staff to accept responsibility for learning as part of the development of their own professional practice.
- Complies with standards and regulations of various licensing, regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse license
- Charge Nurse experience with demonstrated leadership skills
- BLS Certification through the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing
- Pediatric RN experience
- Specialty Certifications
- RN experience in a Teaching Hospital
- Progressive Leadership experience

- Day shift, 8:00a - 5:00p, alternating weekend and on-call coverage required
