Duties & Responsibilities Under direct supervision of a Licensed Nurse of other licensed professional staff, the Patient Care Technician performs activities and procedures of a n non-professional nature in direct/indirect care of patients, or participates a member of a treatment, nursing, medical or health care team in implementing appropriate regimens and works within the scope of regulatory agency standards and policies and procedures as set forward by HHC and Harlem Hospital. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: Assists in recreational and rehabilitation activities designed to meet the assessed needs, interests and capabilities of patients. Assists with the physical care and personal hygiene of selected patients, consisting of, but not limited to: changing simple dressings, giving enemas and taking vital signs.
Prepares patients for meals and feeds them, if necessary. Prepares patients for examination by performing assigned procedures such as temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight and measurements, and assists in the examination process. Prepares patient and / or examining room for examination, treatment and / or procedures.
Sets up and arranges examining room. Cleans, sterilizes and sets up instruments, trays and other equipment. Places or position patient on table, bed, stretcher, wheelchair, etc., using Hoyer lifters and other patient lifting devices, if necessary.
Maintains, assembles and dismantles devices and equipment used in Patient Care. Prepares and tests equipment for safe operation and transports various equipment and supplies. Changes linen and makes beds.
Keeps ward and / or unit, linen, utility, treatment, storage rooms and recreational areas in a neat and orderly fashion. Assists in care and storage of patients' clothing and property and sterilizes clothing and other personal items when required. Reports observation of patients' and families' condition, mental state and social behavior to medical and professional staff caring for patients, and participates in the assessment and / or care of patients and families.
Maintains, controls, completes, processes and files patients' charts, records, transportation and time records, appropriate forms and documents. Assists in clinic, admission procedures and in regulations of visitors. Minimum Qualifications 1.
High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and 3. Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
1. Special Note: 2. In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
