Job description

The Denver Hospice has an immediate opening for a Patient Benefits Specialist.

Location: Denver, CO

Status: Full-time

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-5, occasional weekends

Hourly Pay Range: $20.14 - $25.08

Supplemental Pay: Based on position, schedule and/or availability: Overtime

Mileage and Expense Reimbursement: Sixty-two and a half cents per mile – one of the highest in the industry!

REWARDING WORK YOU WILL DO:

Responsible for working along with the Admissions Team to ensure patients’ coverage information is verified and accurate. Performs a variety of clerical duties in connection with insurance coverage for patients.

  • Responsible for verifying private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits prior to patient’s admission. 
  • Effectively communicates patient’s financial responsibilities to Admissions team. Explains coverage to patients as appropriate.
  • Ensures financial arrangements for uninsured and under-insured patients accessing palliative and hospice services.
  • Researches, identifies and reports to the Admissions team any prior hospice services patient may have received. 
  • Reviews all insurance related information within patient charts for accuracy and completeness, correcting errors or omissions.
  • Obtains prior authorization for hospice care from private insurance companies. Is responsible for researching and complying with the individual insurance company’s terms to include checking daily census, gathering all necessary clinical information, tracking submissions, approvals and re-authorizations as appropriate.
  • Responsible for assisting the Admissions Team to ensure Medicare’s Notice of Elections (NOEs) are compliant. Duties to include checking daily census, tracking all admissions in Notice of Election/Notice of Transfer or Revocation (NOE/NOTR) logs. Responsible for entering the NOE no later than five (5) calendar days after admission. Follow-up with Admissions/clinical teams if incorrect NOE information is discovered. Collaborates with appropriate Finance team members during any NOEs appeals.
  • Reconcile and enter Inpatient visit count sheets into electronic medical record to ensure visits are designated as billable. 
  • Collaborates with Finance department to ensure accuracy of payments and write offs.  Verifies patients in self-pay, indigent, charity and Medicaid on a monthly basis.

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO LOVE ABOUT YOU:

  • Minimum Education:   High School or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum Experience:  One (1) year insurance verification, billing or receivable in hospice or healthcare environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 30 lbs

The Denver Hospice is affiliated with Care Synergy, a nonprofit network of community-based hospice and palliative care organizations serving Colorado’s Front Range and the Region’s Largest Home Health, Hospice, and Palliative Care Network. Care Synergy provides mission support services to better equip The Denver Hospice to operate as a distinct and independent organization while working together to share best practices and serve more Coloradans along the Front Range.
