DEPARTMENT:Patient Access
SHIFT: 12 Hour Shifts
POSITION SUMMARYUnder the general guidance of the Patient Access Supervisor, this position includes registering patients requesting treatment in the Emergency Department, PBX/Outpatient ancillary services, SWING patients and SNF Residents. Assisting in performing non-nursing clerical functions supportive to direct nursing care, facilitating communications, and traffic flow. Operating computer telephone system (PBX), maintaining courteous and efficient communication between patients, various departments, and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Exhibit professionalism in the Patient Access Department as it relates to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff members.
- Obtain signatures for admission and discharge paperwork.
- Collects any co-pay monies, deposits, and payments and completes receipts in a courteous manner.
- Work closely with the Business Office to assist with any patient questions and issues that arise.
- All other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
- Accountability for compliance with laws, regulations, and policies to demonstrate ethical behavior.
- Verify, interpret and apply accurate insurance information.
- Collect and apply accurate and up-to-date demographic information.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) Required:
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- BLS Certification within 3 months of hire
Experience Preferred:
- Previous experience working in a hospital, doctors office or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of Medical and Insurance Terminology
Skills:
- Excellent verbal, written and listening skills with strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient computer skills
