Full-time. The Parts & Inventory Manager is the day-to-day operational manager of DHM's Parts Department doing a variety of tasks in a busy shop environment. This is a hands-on position requiring someone who works well with other team members. Keeping the shop well-stocked and the mechanics on task with the parts they need is critical. The position requires a working knowledge of construction/excavating heavy equipment and heavy trucks, and previous parts and inventory management experience. Work schedule is from 5:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
Essential duties include:
- Manage and control all incoming and outgoing equipment parts in the DHM Shop.
- Forecasting parts needs, placing orders, and manage optimal inventory control of on-hand parts in the Shop.
- Organize parts and ensure storage in the proper locations.
- Communicate with the Shop Manager and mechanics and order parts as needed/requested for the hop.
- Research parts needed as required and communicate trending of parts.
- Collaborate with the Shop Manager and Field Technician Foreman on parts received for field repairs.
- Communicate issues and/or delays with receiving or ordering parts needed for the Shop with the Shop Manager and the mechanics.
- Perform recordkeeping functions for all parts ordered and/or delivered.
- Process packing slips and invoices for billing and payment purposes.
- Perform computer work by using DHM's shop software programs.
- Review repair orders to ensure that parts are being applied to the correct pieces of equipment.
- Continuously review pricing of parts to ensure the best possible pricing and profitability is being achieved.
- Handle all shipping and receiving of heavy equipment and heavy vehicle parts.
- Communicate by phone and email daily with multiple vendors.
- Review and approve repeat vendor's ordering lists.
- Adhere to DHM's safety rules and policies.
- Perform labor tasks and other duties, such as light cleaning, maintenance, repairs, as assigned to contribute to the overall success of DHM.
- Oversee special orders and work with vendors to source the necessary parts.
Skills and Abilities include:
- 3 - 5 years of Parts & Inventory management experience.
- Operate forklift as needed. Must be forklift certified or become forklift certified.
- Previous experience in a parts department working with heavy equipment and/or heavy truck parts environment is preferred.
- Possess knowledge of construction equipment and heavy truck parts and the ability to understand and interpret equipment terminology to identify parts correctly and recommend the needed parts.
- General background in mechanics and an understanding of mechanical parts.
- Able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced and often loud environment.
- Organizational skills to keep inventory neat, clean, and easy to locate.
- Attention to detail to assist with recordkeeping and processing a high volume of paperwork daily.
- Above average computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, and capability to learn other job specific software programs as needed.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills to deal with parts inventory issues.
- Demonstrated math and inventory management skills since managing the parts inventory is a major part of the job.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
- Solid negotiating capabilities and follow-up skills when working with vendors.
- Self-motivated, results driven, forward thinking, and good time management skills.
- Able to work independently with little supervision and as a team member in a shop environment.
- Good interpersonal skills with a professional and friendly demeanor and be calm and polite when working with mechanics, employees, and vendors.
