Overview
We are seeking a Participant Coordinator to serve on a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated research professionals that supports research studies for the National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS) Clinical Research Unit (CRU). This position is based in-person, onsite at the NIEHS CRU in Research Triangle Park, NC.
The CRU conducts a diverse array of research studies, including in pulmonary diseases, medical genetics and reproductive health, as well as investigator-initiated IND/FDA studies. As a Participant Coordinator, you will play a vital role in assisting participants throughout their study participation.

Responsibilities
Role and Responsibilities:
- Greets and assists participants in person and by phone; ascertains purpose of visit and/or call; responds to inquiries and directs participants to appropriate staff as necessary.
- Manages participant arrivals and departures during clinic visits.
- Assists participants with NIH registration and admission paperwork and processes completed forms in applicable electronic systems.
- Contributes to the development of new protocols by providing input and feedback on the participant coordination workflow and compensation aspects.
- Manages the handling, storage, and retrieval of source documents.
- Tracks compensation and reimbursement through appropriate systems.
- Point person for shipping and office supplies at the CRU; regularly checks supply stock and inventory level; anticipates needed supplies; verifies receipt of supplies; reports and schedules office equipment service and repairs.
- Protects participants' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information by ensuring that all medical records, participant documents, and any other items with participant identifiers are locked in medical record room at end of day.
- Answers routine correspondence regarding requests for information of a non-technical nature; seeks signatures for correspondence as necessary.
- Provides clinical office support to ensure participant satisfaction; assists with obtaining participant feedback regarding satisfaction.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
- Assists with study kit assembly, shipping, and scheduling of courier pickups.
- Assists with other clinical research protocol planning and implementation tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Additional Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience in an environment that fosters the skills below.
Preferred / Special Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Proficient in computer usage (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, electronic mail and internet functions) and ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical professionals, coworkers, and participants.
- Familiarity with medical charts and records.
- Basic understanding of data collection, data management and data security.
- Experience in clinical research a plus.
