Part Time Zookeeper

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Zoo Keeper. As a Zoo Keeper, you will play a vital role in the care, well-being, and enrichment of a diverse range of animal species, including reptiles, birds, kangaroos, primates, and livestock. You will be responsible for ensuring the animals' nutrition, health, and overall welfare, while also maintaining detailed records and providing proactive documentation. This position requires working outdoors in all climates and being available to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

Animal Care and Welfare: Provide daily care, feeding, and husbandry for a variety of animal species, including reptiles, birds, kangaroos, primates, and livestock.
Observe animals to monitor their behavior, health, and overall well-being.
Administer medications and treatments as directed by the management team.
Maintain clean and sanitary animal enclosures and exhibit areas.

Nutrition and Enrichment: Prepare and distribute appropriate diets according to species-specific nutritional requirements.
Monitor food intake, observe feeding behaviors, and make adjustments as necessary.
Develop and implement enrichment programs to promote physical and mental stimulation for the animals.
Provide environmental enrichment activities and toys to enhance the animals' well-being.

Health Monitoring and Documentation: Conduct regular health checks and inspections to identify any signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal health, behavior, and enrichment activities.
Report any concerns or abnormalities to the management team promptly.
Assist with veterinary procedures, including capturing and restraining animals, as required.

Exhibit Maintenance:Ensure the cleanliness and safety of animal enclosures, including proper sanitation and waste management.
Monitor and maintain appropriate temperature, humidity, and lighting conditions in animal habitats.
Assist with the design, construction, and modification of animal enclosures as needed.
Collaborate with the maintenance team to address any repairs or maintenance tasks.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with the management team to develop and implement animal care protocols.
Assist in training and mentoring new zookeeping staff.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth operations and maintain a positive work environment.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (relevant certifications or degrees in animal science or related field are a plus).
• Prior experience working with reptiles, birds, kangaroos, primates, and livestock is essential.
• Knowledge of species-specific care, behavior, and husbandry requirements.
• Strong understanding of animal nutrition and the ability to prepare appropriate diets.
• Experience with environmental enrichment techniques to promote animal well-being.
• Detail-oriented with excellent observational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
• Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues and management.
• Passion for animal welfare and conservation.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $12 to $16 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
