Retail Sales Associate Job Description

The Old Town Shop is a well-known local gift shop located in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria at the vibrant Waterfront. We are seeking a part-time Sales Associates to join our fantastic team! This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to join a fun and energetic environment and grow their skills of Retail Sales & merchandising.

Responsibilities:

• OVERALL: Part-time Retail Sales Associate will work two to four 5-6 hour shifts per week. Must be able to accept a night and weekend shift, as needed.
• CUSTOMERS: Greet customers and help them find the perfect product. Guide them on local recommendations for dining and events.
• MERCHANDISING: Stocking of merchandise and preparation of displays. Creativity allows the associate to make signage and change product displays.
• SALES PERFORMANCE: Sales associate should be trained in sales, and how to cross-sell and up-sell products.

Qualifications

• Clear and effective communication skills.
• Enthusiasm and strong customer service skills.
• Solid experience with POS systems and preferably, Square or Shopify
• Availability to the hours necessary to fill the schedule, which will include nights, weekends, and some holidays
• Must be able to perform physical activities on the job, which include kneeling, lifting, bending, carrying, walking, climbing and/or reaching on a frequent basis.
• Knowledge of Old Town Alexandria, local businesses and/or surrounding area is a plus!
• Experience in a gift shop environment is desirable.
• Work Includes: evenings, weekends, holidays
• Paid Training: on the job

Pay frequency:

• Every other week

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Shift:

• Day shift
• Night shift

Weekly day range:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
