**Temporary position beginning ASAP and ending April 2023 with a possible extension**
Company Description: NAMI San Diego/Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.
Primary Responsibilities/Function:
The Alliance Seasonal Shelter is located in Downtown San Diego and serves older adults who identify as female and who are experiencing homelessness. The Residential Specialist for the Overnight shift will be responsible for ensuring that our residents are supported in a safe and dignified space from the hours of 12 am to 8:30 am. Specialist will look through a trauma-informed lens and will focus on building rapport with residents in order to create an environment with high resident retention. NAMI San Diego sees value in lived experience and is seeking individuals who are able to leverage their work and lived expertise to deliver high-quality supports to our unhoused neighbors. The Ideal candidate thrives on a team, is able to take incentive, is proficient in communicating between shifts, and is a strong de-escalator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cross-checks evening roster and ensures all residents are in the assigned bed
- Oversees assigned evening residents for a successful night of sleep, assisting as needed to ensure all needs of participants are met within reason
- Run HMIS Clarity program data reports each evening and cross check the data with the attendance of that day
- Generates supply list, orders approved supplies, and Completes AP request and submits them for program expenses
- Wakes up program participants in a trauma-informed manner and support all shelter residents out of the program by 8 am.
- Supports residents with reminders to keep all positions in their designated storage boxes
- Creates daily resource list to announce each morning that is specific to that day. (Ex. when and where will meals be served that day, recourse events, weather forecast, etc.) and remind residents daily before they exit the time they need to return, the check-in policy, and reminders on what to do if you will not be returning that evening.
- Completes daily check out log of residents
- Takes shifts breaking guard as needed
- Demonstrates strong boundaries, de-escalation techniques and has appropriate reposes in crisis situations
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability: Reports to the Program Manager of the Alliance Seasonal Shelter.

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Minimum Requirements, including linguistic and cultural skills, education, experiences, licenses and certifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in human services, or equivalent work experience
- Experience working with un-housed neighbors who have SMI and SUD. Additional experience working with seniors and/ or those with ambulatory issues is preferred.
- Expert interpersonal skills
- Minimum 6 months of solid availability from 12 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
- A clean driving record and a reliable vehicle
- Computer proficient in Outlook, Microsoft 360, Excel
- Fluency in English required; fluency in Spanish or other threshold language preferred
- Lived mental health experience for self or family member
