Patron Services (Circulation) Specialist - Part-Time, 15 hours per week, $15 per hour
This is a non-exempt non-management position
Description
Provide excellent customer service interactions through materials circulation, assisting with informational questions, and maintaining confidentiality with patron records.
Required Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience handling currency and ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
- One year customer service experience
- Enthusiastic to create a friendly, courteous, pleasant first impression of library
- Knowledge of the purposes and functions of libraries preferred
- Comfortable handling multiple tasks and prioritizing workflows
- Passion to work with the public in a positive manner
- Utilizes automated circulation system to perform full range of circulation procedures, including check in & check out of all materials
- Answers a variety of questions at the circulation desk
- Issues patron cards, maintains files, and enters information into the database
- Places holds for patrons and processes reserved materials upon arrival
- Inspects materials for damage during checkouts and returns
- Collects fines and fees from patrons
- Answers telephone to provide routine information and transfer calls to other departments; fax for patrons
- Carries out procedures for notification of patrons for overdue materials
- Sorts checked in materials including borrowing and lending requests within system and shelves all types of library items
- Actively monitors and restocks new book and A/V shelving
- Cleans books if needed
- Assists and instructs patrons with self-check, accessing their record online, paying fees online, and using the coin operated photocopier
- Ensures accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and reshelving materials
- Accepts and processes impact fees for newly built homes within library district
- Assists with library program set up as necessary
- Serves as a Passport Acceptance Agent
- Issues Museum Adventure Passes
- Attends library training and continuing education as needed
- Supports patrons' use of library services
- Performs other duties as required
Hours include evening and weekend availability
