Description
The City of Germantown is seeking a part-time Park Ranger to be responsible for patrolling Germantown parks and greenway areas by foot, vehicle, or bicycle.
SCHEDULE:
Days, nights and weekends. 20-25 hours per week; exact hours will vary according to park activities.
Examples of Duties
- Park rule enforcement.
- Public relations, education, and emergency response.
- Open reserved facilities at the appropriate times. Monitor and be available during the rentals.
- Secure park facilities.
- Perform routine maintenance duties as needed, such as trash pick-up, restroom cleaning, leaf removal, tree trimming, graffiti removal, invasive species control, and maintenance of city arboretums.
- Report, secure, and/or repair immediate safety hazards as needed in park areas
- Turn athletic field lights on and off at appropriate times.
- Prepare reports outlining patrol activities.
- Work special events to provide crowd control, give directions and provide information.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Germantown park areas and geography of the city.
- Ability to communicate effectively to enforce rules, resolve disturbances, and promote good will.
- Ability to operate communication devices.
- Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or equivalent. Experience in providing successful public service. Prior experience in outdoor recreation or resource management preferred. CPR, First Aid, AED certified or ability to obtain. Must possess a valid driver's license. Driving record and background check will be conducted.
