Opportunity at a Glance
The Village of Tinley Park (population approx. 56,000) is a vibrant, progressive community located in the fast- growing Interstate 80 corridor in southwest suburban Chicago. We seek qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Maintenance in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department. The Facilities Division is responsible for the maintenance of all Village buildings and for maintaining the Village's street lights program.
Key Responsibilities
This position will perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks as assigned by the Facilities Division (ie. general outdoor upkeep and maintenance, maintenance and construction projects, stocking supplies at various facilities) including but, not limited to: operating small hand, electric, and gas-powered tools; insuring proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use; removing trash/litter at assigned Village properties; shoveling snow and salting sidewalks, driveways, and/or plowing in small pick-up trucks; and performing general clean-up as assigned.
Additionally, this role will complete all follow-up documentation such as work orders, labor tracking sheets, inspection or other related forms as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must have working knowledge of the use of tools and supplies used in Public Works, general cleaning supplies, first aid and applicable safety precautions. Availability to work during the standard business day with some evening/weekend hours, and possession of a valid Driver's license is required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid CDL Class B driver's license with airbrake endorsement within six (6) months of employment is preferred.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently with minimum supervision, has experience working with small hand, electric and gas-powered tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. This individual will also be able to follow written/oral instruction and perform all duties in conformance with all safety and security standards.
Additional Information
This is a collectively bargained position under IUOE Local 150.
A consistent schedule is required. Some flexibility is available. General work days/hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. Must indicate availability at time of application.
Part-time (20 to 29 Hours) classified employees are eligible to participate in vision benefits, flexible spending accounts, and ancillary benefits. In addition, retirement benefits are provided through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and employees have the option to participate in a 457(b) retirement savings plan.
