As a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for Swope Health, you will be a resource for mothers of our community who are breastfeeding. Our Breastfeeding Peer Counselor gives basic breastfeeding information, support, and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding women, and serves as a role model for breastfeeding women. If you have a passion for helping mothers, this is the role for you.
Primary Functions include:
- Counsel pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, in the WIC office during scheduled visits, and virtually as needed.
- Facilitates breastfeeding classes in person and/or virtually.
- Organizes breastfeeding support groups.
- Plans breastfeeding promotional events.
- Refers participants to a nutritionist, lactation consultant, or physician for problems beyond the role's scope of support.
- Maintains an inventory of breastfeeding supplies and education materials.
- Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC participants using MOWINS (Missouri WIC information system.
Successful Candidates will have:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Good communication and organization skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with team members and other safety net organizations.
- Personal breastfeeding experience. (Preferred)
- Currently or previous participation in WIC Program. (Preferred)
