Location: Bryan, Texas
Part-Time Apparatus Operator / EMT-Basic
$16.50/hour with TCDRS Retirement (7% employee contribution)Introduction:
Brazos County ESD 2 is located northeast of Bryan covering 150 square miles of subdivisions, ranch-style residential and commercial/light industrial properties. The department is comprised of a full-time paid fire chief, 12 part-time personnel, and 25 volunteers operating two stations with a third station in the planning stage. Automatic and mutual aid agreements are in place as a part of the county-wide response system. The department provides Advance Life Support medical response services with transport services provided by two municipal fire-based departments. We are experiencing growth and anticipate changes in staffing levels in the future.
Responsibilities:
Perform a wide variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, rescue, and hazardous material operations. The Part-Time Apparatus Operator will be assigned to work nine (9) hour on-duty shifts based on availability. Part-Time Apparatus Operators are expected to work a minimum of five (5) shifts per month. Shift days and hours may be subject to change.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  1. Shall possess a current certification as a Basic Firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) or higher at the time of hiring.
  2. Hold minimum current certification as an EMT-Basic by the Texas Department of Health and Services.
  3. Shall possess a current certification as a Basic Pumper Operator by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) or higher at the time of hiring (or obtain within first six-months of hire date).
  4. Must have a valid Texas Class B Exempt License (obtain within 90 days).
  5. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to read, write and fluently speak English.
  6. Experience in a paid or combination fire department preferred (Fire Chief may use discretion).
  7. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  8. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  9. Pass a background check.
  10. Pass a medical exam and drug screen test.
Out of state applicants must be able to transfer their home state training/certifications to the State of Texas. The TCFP recognizes certification with an International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (“IFSAC”) seal.
