Weekly Hours: Full-Time (32-40 hours)
Supervised by: Assigned Provider, Site Coordinator
Summary of Duties: Works directly with physicians to transcribe patient information during clinical visits in real time into Parkside Pediatrics’ electronic medical records (EMRs). May function as a liaison between patients, families, team members and providers.
Responsibilities:
- Accompanies one assigned provider per shift during clinical visits and examinations.
- Accurately documents provider’s dictated patient history, physical examination, family, social and past medical history as well as document procedures, lab results, radiographic impressions and any other information pertaining a patient’s encounter during a visit.
- Provides over the top customer service to all patients.
- Communicates with clinical, providers, patients, and families to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintains and demonstrates an understanding of a team approach to patient care.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to document patient care as dictated by the provider in a legible and clear manner, following all local, state, and federal documentation guidelines.
- Maintains skills and knowledge base through reading, training, and other structured in-services.
- Attends team meetings as scheduled.
- Conducts self in accordance with Parkside Pediatrics Employee Handbook.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Completes annual compliance training provided by MUSC Health.
- Helps manage provider Telephone encounters throughout the day
- High School Diploma
- Medical Scribe Certification preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 4 shifts per week availability.
- Healthcare student- physician, nursing, physician assistant, healthcare administration, etc.
- Willing to make a 1–2-year commitment as a scribe at Parkside Pediatrics.
- One or more years’ experience in a medical setting.
- Efficient computer & technology skills.
- Desire to learn medical terminology, including abbreviations and correct spelling of the English language.
- Ability to work with non-cooperative patients, patients with psychosocial problems and needs, or chronic and acute health problems.
- Ability to adapt to various work assignments.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform moderate physical activity. May require handling/lifting objects (up to 50 pounds) or standing/sitting/walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
