Your Role
The Parks and Recreation Lead Aide ($17.00 per hour) duties will include, but not be limited to:
Assist with data entry to include maintain statistics for monthly/annual reports, types memos, operate office equipment such as computer, scanner, fax, copy machine, and adding machine as required.
Providing customer service and enforce rules and regulations
Assist with collection of user fees/money, keeping and balancing records/reports
Serve as site supervisor in absence of full-time staff
Perform housekeeping/custodial duties including cleaning and maintaining all parts of the public restrooms and empty large park trash cans
Make park/facility/program decisions based on inclement weather about program delays, closures or cancellations in the absence of full-time staff
Assist customers with boat launches and/or manage special event participation
Provide routing maintenance and construction of park areas, amenities and equipment
Collecting user fees/money, keeping and balancing records/reports
Individual will work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions
Report incidents/accident and discrepancies
Open and close facilities
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

This pool of applicants may fill positions for multiple locations.
The individual selected for this position will be housed at a primary site but may be scheduled between other park sites/facilities. Schedules will be adjusted seasonally and will vary weekly based on events, facility coverage, and weather.
Average scheduled hours up to 27 hours per week.
This position requires a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license to operate vehicles to completed job tasks .
This is a seasonal position ending September 15, 2024
Some assignments may require overtime or split shifts to cover operational needs.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.
This position will require you to have Driver’s License to operate vehicles to complete job tasks.
As a condition of employment, all part-time employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided your training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
