Job Details:
The City of Gainesville is currently seeking a part-time Park Ranger to join the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department's Nature Operations Division. This position, based primarily at Sweetwater Wetlands Park, will play an integral role in engaging our neighbors and park visitors with meaningful natural and cultural history education and interpretation. The park ranger will also protect resources through natural resource management activities and enforce park rules and regulations. An eligibility list may be maintained to hire future full and part-time positions and candidates are encouraged to apply for this posting if they have an interest in working full or part-time.
Tasks to be performed may include but are not limited to:
• Act as a public information resource; answer public inquiries about programs and direct park patrons in a positive, diplomatic and respectful manner.
• Develop and provide educational and interpretive programs
• Book and deliver park tours
• Engage the community through social media and virtual programs
• Supervise and work with volunteers
• Maintain alertness at all times while observing patrons in and around the grounds and facilities.
• Enforce all rules, regulations and procedures governing the City of Gainesville's park grounds and facilities; enforce by informing park patrons.
• Patrol park grounds and facilities; observe trespassers, security violations parking violations and unusual situations; contact law enforcement and parking enforcement officials, as necessary.

Job Description:
SUMMARY
This is technical and administrative work performing positive public relations, visitor services, enforcement of park rules, natural resource interpretation and protection, environmental education programs and presentations and general grounds and building maintenance duties at the City's parks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists patrons in distress; administers first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), if necessary. Calls for emergency assistance, when needed.
Assists in the recovery of lost children and property, contacts law enforcement, as necessary.
Prepares periodic and special reports, including daily incident, accident and activity logs.
Plans, prepares and delivers organized activities, special events, and environmental education programs and presentations.
Conducts herbicide treatment and/or manual removal of invasive non-native plants.
Performs site and program evaluations, takes notes, and provides feedback to supervisor, including recommendations for modifications and improvements.
Handles the collection of daily receipts and delivers to appropriate City staff.
Maintains assigned park facilities in clean and sanitary conditions at all times. Keeps trash and litter picked up in and around the assigned park facilities.
Performs minor general maintenance, cleaning, and repair on assigned park facilities; reports damage and/or needed maintenance and repairs to the designated supervisor.
Operates a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles in a safe manner. Keeps all equipment and supplies in good working condition.
Maintains accurate records of programs, materials, supplies, and equipment.
Opens and closes assigned park facilities and buildings, according to schedule and procedures. Notifies appropriate authorities in event of an emergency
Attends work on a continual and regular basis.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May assist with other natural resource management activities as required.
May work with and around live animal exhibits and exhibition plantings.
Prepares park facilities for activities, special events, and environmental education programs and presentations; may include setting up chairs and tables, moving furniture and equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a flexible work schedule and may require working a varying schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work requires the performance of tasks outdoors under varying environmental conditions including extreme heat, humidity, and alligators, venomous snakes, large mammals, biting insects/other invertebrates.
