Job Summary:
Under general direction of the assistant park manager, performs a variety of skilled work activities associated with the operation and maintenance. The Ranger II position at San Rafael State Park is primary a maintenance position. These tasks would include keeping the Ranch house and outer buildings clean, collecting garbage, various projects involving lifting, bending or squatting, fee collection, rule compliance, and promotes public safety by educating the public on park rules and regulations; supervises volunteers and trains new employees.
Job Duties:
- Maintains park buildings this includes plumbing, electrical, landscaping, painting, and roofing. Collects fees and accounts for these fees, registers visitors and is accountable for the safety of park revenues. Supervises volunteers and trains new employees.
- Patrols park for rule compliance resource protection, and ensures that visitors have a safe and positive park recreational and camping experience. Collects trash and picks up litter, cleans fire rings and grills, cleans trash and dangerous objects.
- Cleans Ranch House and outer buildings. Maintains park equipment, inspects equipment to insure safe operation, replaces worn parts and general service maintenance.
- Maintains grounds, fertilizes trees, irrigates trees, repairs irrigation, prunes trees, clears brush, kills weeds, maintains firer lines, roads and parking lots.
- Involved with park construction projects and special projects that include carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
- Operates Equipment to include tractor, dump truck, generators, pumps, weed eater, lawn-mower and power tools.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Basic construction, electrical, carpentry, plumbing.
- Vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance.
- Park and agency rules and policies.
- Basic use of hand tools and power tools.
- Landscaping.
- Custodial functions.
- Basic first aid/ AED.
Skill in:
- Basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
- Driving, operating and servicing motorized and automotive equipment, ie. Lawnmower, UTV,ATV, tractor and 4x4 full size pick-up truck.
- Effective public contact.
- Oral and written communication.
Ability to:
- Uniformly and consistently interpret and enforce rules and regulations.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
- Work weekends, holidays and night shifts.
- Work independently.
- Work as a member of a team.
- Obtain and maintain Arizona Drivers License.
- Drive and operate park construction equipment and power tools.
- Live on site, in a remote location totally relining on solar and generator for electricity.
- Live in a remote location 55 min to the nearest town.
Selective Preference(s):
Two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Specialist; OR three years of work experience in customer service, library or museum work; OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment.
- Some positions may require certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
- If needed, ability to obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and/or Waste/Water Management.
