There are currently two openings for the position of Park Ranger with the Town of Glastonbury. Each is up to 19.5 hours per week with a varied schedule. The starting rate of pay is $16.39 per hour.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Park and Recreation Director, or his/her designee, incumbent maintains positive public relations with Glastonbury citizens and visitors, answering questions, directing traffic, explaining ordinances and regulations affecting behavior within town parks, open space and preserves.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Answers questions about the Town park system; provides directions to area attractions and services; and provides referrals about obtaining permits.
- Patrols areas of the Town, monitoring for and reporting to Police Department, violations of Town ordinances, safety hazards, suspicious persons or activity. Provides written witness statements.
- Directs traffic at public events.
- Participates in setup/cleanup for public events.
- Provides first aid and CPR/AED.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:
- Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to write basic witness statements or memos
- Knowledge of or ability to learn local parking regulations and ordinances
- Knowledge of or ability to learn citizen rights
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of or ability to learn

- Four-wheel-drive vehicle operation
Ability to
- recognize ordinance violations, and public safety concerns
- walk/stand for an extended period of time, in order to patrol on foot and conduct traffic direction activities

- reach and bend; and push/pull/lift objects up to 20 pounds
- hear normal sounds and communicate through human speech as in radio communications and in-person dialogue
- understand verbal and written instructions
- perform CPR/AED and basic first aid
- The work environment involves risks involved with traffic control, requiring a range of safety precautions and situational awareness; exposure to outdoors seasonal weather conditions
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Customer service experience, preferred
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must obtain CPR/AED certification within three (3) months of hire
- Must obtain First Aid certification within three (3) months of hire
