Park Maintenance Tradesman

Brazoria County Parks Department is growing and thriving in Southeast Texas, and features 10 recreational park sites, one historic site, more than 20 boat ramp facilities and 14 miles of public beach along the Gulf of Mexico. The Parks Department has a dedicated and professional team of employees that serves the purposeful mission of stewarding the natural and cultural resources, and public lands on behalf of the citizens of Brazoria County.Basic Job Description: The successful candidate for Parks Department Maintenance Tradesman will perform the following duties:

• Operate most any and all types of equipment to perform general maintenance, construction, renovation and repairs of all park facilities as a member of Park Maintenance crew at all county Park sites and beaches; must be able to operate equipment such as Bobcat / skid steer, excavator, dump truck, backhoe, trencher, frontend loader, tractor, forklift, zero-turn mower, and other types of equipment or machinery.
• Must have broad knowledge and experience with general maintenance and repair processes such as basic plumbing, basic electrical, construction, grounds work, hand tools, machinery, auto mechanics, etc., in order to assist as needed on Park maintenance, repair and construction projects, which may include mowing and weed eating, trenching, plumbing /repair, building /repair, basic carpentry, basic electrical /repair, picking up trash, cleaning park facilities grounds, and other duties.
• Assist with maintenance and repairs of Park equipment and vehicles as needed.
• Will serve as a lead of other Park staff or Park maintenance crew members and may help oversee staff during absence of Park Senior Staff.
• Position will typically involve daily travel in park vehicle along with crew members to various job sites, park locations and beaches for maintenance and facility repairs, project development, etc.
• Employee must be willing to work non-traditional schedule such as four, 10-hour day shifts that begin at 6 a.m., occasional evening, weekend and holiday projects, and work outdoors in all manner of elements and weather conditions, sometimes with tight deadlines to serve the public interest.
• This position will also assist with various Park special events when needed, such as fishing, archery and community outreach events.
• This position may also help manage probationer and community service workers while they are on site in the park to assist with Park Maintenance, etc.
• Other duties may be assigned by Parks Dept senior staff.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:high school diploma or G.E.D. required. Current Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required. Stronger consideration will be given to those with four years' or more experience as an operator, in maintenance, repair or construction trade areas, and to those with crew leadership experience, or previous experience working at a parks, recreation, wildlife/fisheries agency, road and bridge department, or public works / maintenance department.

• Comply with all Brazoria County policies such as a uniform dress code, background check and drug screening.
• Employee must provide transportation to and from Angleton Parks HQ location.

Supervisor: Parks Maintenance Tradesman position reports directly to Parks Lead Maintenance Foreman and Parks Deputy Director.
Salary range: Grade 33, $47,506 to$53,468 per year ($22.83-$25.70/hourly), depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits package, and is a full-time, 40-hour per week, position which may or may not supervise other positions;
