The Parent Advocate acts as a direct support to parents and caregivers currently receiving child welfare services in the CUA by offering emotional support, sharing experiences, and helping them understand and navigate the multiple systems with which they may be involved. They are part of the larger case management support team responsible for helping to achieve the target goals of Improving Outcomes for Children initiative: safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families. The CUA Parent Advocate reports directly to the CUA Prevention Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Function as part of the larger CUA team.
Coordinate with the CUA Case Management (CM) Team to engage with parents and caregivers receiving child welfare services, in need of peer support.
Provide client transport as directed
Provide direct support, encouragement, guidance and information to parents and caregivers receiving services through the CUA
Engage parents and caregivers in a variety of settings, including home and community settings.
Share personal experiences in the child welfare system, to offer hope, encouragement, and guidance to others, while maintaining professional boundaries.
High School Diploma or GED Preferred
Must have successfully reunified with their children and youth, or successfully stabilized their family and maintained safe case closure for a minimum of one year and recognize that they have benefited from their experience with the Child Welfare System. Or, in the alternative, positively utilized Prevention Services to keep their family from entering the formal Child Welfare System.
Strong working knowledge of computer applications.
Valid, timely Child Abuse, Criminal History, and FBI clearances that meet all regulatory requirements.
Good oral and written communications skills in English.
Basic familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to learn and effectively operate other software packages as needed and required.
