Paraprofessional

The Chicago High School for the Arts is accepting applications for a licensed Paraprofessional for the current school year 2023-2024 and 2024 -2025

Position Summary:

The ideal teaching assistant/paraprofessional candidate will assist the Case Manager and the Diverse Learners department as a whole in coordinating and facilitating accommodations for students with both 504 plans and IEPs when applicable. This role deviates from the traditional one-on-one paraprofessional schedule and is comprised of skills within three categories: administrative coordination, teacher collaboration, and direct service.

Responsibilities

Administrative Coordination

• Run assigned designated classroom, which may include study hall and/or advisory.

• Students with separate testing and extended time accommodations will take assessments (quizzes, tests, and written projects) in this classroom.

• Maintain a testing grid or schedule using Google Suite with the names of students who are expected to test each day, the names of their teachers, and any timing requirements specified by teachers.

• Finals Coordination:

  • collect and coordinate finals for only 504 students with separate testing accommodations (30-40 students)

  • participate in administering finals

  • works directly with operations/process to reserve rooms and ensure time and space are provided for all students.

Teacher Collaboration

• Coordinate testing three to five days in advance with teachers, either by email or by an Assessment Calendar maintained by all academic teaching staff. Teachers will provide copies of tests each day.

• Save and track all data related to testing, including any behavioral incidents or patterns (examples included in training.)

• Collaborate with DL teachers and general education/content teachers to keep track of tests that are in progress and must be finished in the study hall or at another specified time.

• Attend weekly meetings (DL meetings, all-staff meetings, grade-level meetings) to consult on student behavior and progress.

Direct Service

• Maintain a professional rapport with students, aligning with ChiArts’ mission of compassionate, trauma-informed, and anti-bias practices.

• Facilitate testing with integrity per the content teacher’s policies, reporting to the Case Manager whenever necessary.

• Participate in special non-academic days such as, but not limited to, institute days, SAT and PSAT days, and report card pick-up days.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from an accredited college; bachelor’s degree preferred. Education-related experience preferred.

• ISBE Paraprofessional License/Certification required

• Excellent organizational skills

• Excellent verbal communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with teams and nurture collegial relationships

• Able to adapt and improve in changing situations

• Proven ability to work with a diverse population

• Willingness to be bold and creative in pursuit of what is best for students

• An understanding of the value of arts education

• The candidate will be evaluated annually by Case Manager

• The position is a bargaining-covered position.
