- Facilitate the learning needs of special education scholars in the classroom by working to implement their inclusion in classroom activities to the maximum extent possible.

- Assist the classroom teacher and scholars in daily activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of scholars' needs, including but not limited to: educational, medical, physical, sensory, speech/language, social/emotional, recreational, vocational, etc., as established by the teacher.
- Under the direction of the teacher, maintain scholars’ behavior by utilizing behavior management strategies.
- Ability to adhere to schedule while remaining flexible when scholars’ needs require schedule changes, as directed by special education teacher and/or administration.
- Work to meet the IEP requirements for the scholars by proactively communicating suggestions and ideas to support the scholars better.
- Maintain required documentation as directed by special education teacher and scholars’ IEP.
- Contribute to the professional community of the school by participating in Professional Development, including weekly Professional Development sessions and all other meetings as expected.
- Attend school-wide meetings and participate as a staff member on committees as expected.
- Engage in all professional development and reading activities in order to deepen knowledge on how to support scholars.
- Operate all equipment related to support of teacher and/or student needs: copy machine, computers, assistive technology, related OT and PT devices, other items as required.

- Associate's Degree
- completed a paraprofessional training program approved by ISBE, or
- passed the ETS Parapro Assessment with 460 as a minimum score or
- passed the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
