Job Summary and Qualifications

The Paramedic PRNassists the licensed nurse with the initial patient assessment, in triage, monitor patient for arrythmias, measure and record patient’s input and output, hang crystalloid IV fluids at prescribed rate, and assist physicians with central line insertions, lumbar punctures, defibrillation, cardioversion, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, arterial lines, and suturing. 

• You will insert oral/nasal airways; connect patient to oxygen and monitor.
• Perform 12-lead EKG.
• You will initiate and discontinue peripheral intravenous catheters; insert foley catheters
• Perform CPR, finger stick glucose monitoring, oral suctioning

You may perform the following procedures as approved by the EMS Medical Director:

• Perform needle chest decompression; defibrillation, cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing; endotracheal and nasotracheal intubation.
• Insert intraosseous lines.
• Perform endotracheal suctioning
• Administer fleet enemas.
• Insertion of external jugular intravenous catheters

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start 

• Successful completion of a Paramedic training course. 

• 3 years field experience as a certified EMT-Paramedic is preferred

• Previous Emergency Room or comparable experience is required

• Must have and maintain a Virginia Division of EMS EMT-Paramedic certification
