Job description

Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The position is located at Dugway Proving Ground, a remote & isolated installation approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah and 90 minutes drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. Dugway has a highly professional workforce providing support to an array of missions and organizations.

Duties
  • Responds to and assesses emergency's determining the safest and most appropriate course of action.
  • Performs both EMT and Paramedic level Emergency Medical Treatments to significantly increase patient survivability.
  • Performs thorough documentation of all emergency responses.
  • Works with a team to establish the safest and most appropriate course of action in any given emergency situation.
  • Operate emergency response vehicles to respond to emergencies and transport patients to the most appropriate medical facility.

Requirements
Conditions of Employment
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Work may involve exposure to harmful chemicals and/or contagious/communicable diseases that could be fatal or cause serious illness. Little protection can be afforded prior to the disease diagnosis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • A valid state driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position. Must successfully pass an Army approved defensive driving certification course and obtain and maintain on-post driving privileges.
  • Possess and maintain current certification through the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) commensurate with the requirement of the positions to which currently assigned (emergency medical technician - paramedic (EMT- P).
  • Civilian EMT's who are not currently NREMT certified will, at a minimum, possess EMT certification while obtaining EMT-P certification. Employees who do not have NREMT certification will be given up to 1 year to obtain national certification.
  • This position requires you to possess and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • This position requires you to possess and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain on-post driving privileges.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a prescribed uniform and protective clothing.
  • This position is Inclement Weather Essential and requires the employee to perform work in all types of weather.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience is defined as: one year of experience in assessing patients; obtaining patient vital signs; experience with various types of medical equipment (e.g. EKG, defibrillator, suction, glucometer and thermometer); appropriately diagnose and treat the injury or illness using the best practice while following appropriate guidelines/protocols and standing orders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution: Successful completion of one and a half years (i.e., 27 semester hours) of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position (Note: You must include transcripts with your application),
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some but not all of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you do have. To do so, compute the percentage of your requirements met, the sum of which must equal at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.)
Licensure/Certification: This position requires a paramedic certification (EMT-P).
Education
