Manatee County is the primary 911-emergency response service to the citizens and visitors of Manatee County. We operate over 21 ALS and BLS units, consisting of ambulances, firefighter paramedics in fire apparatus, supervisory staff, and community paramedics. During 2022 these units responded to over 57,000 calls for service. We are a third service provider, meaning we are government run emergency medical system that is not fire department based. We serve a population of over 403,000 people. We respond to all prehospital medical calls for service in the 748 square miles of Manatee County and 150 miles of coastal water ways.
The Charge Paramedic performs technical work in the provision of advanced emergency medical care and transportation under direction of a physician, by written protocol or direct communication, provides advanced emergency medical care (Advanced Life Support - ALS) for the sick and injured as defined in Florida Statute and Florida Administrative Code and local Medical Director authored protocols. This position requires extensive knowledge in Basic and Advanced Emergency Medical Care, Incident Command Management (ICS), basic rescue procedures, Basic Hazardous Materials Response, Emergency Vehicle Operations, patient handling techniques, Critical Incident Stress Management, thorough knowledge of the geography of Manatee County, and the ability to direct the work of others.

Minimum Qualifications
Pre-Employment Physical Requirements
- Must successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and department-approved Agility Test.
*Note: Safety Sensitive position requires random drug testing.
Required
- High School graduate/equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of working experience as a paramedic in an ALS 911 system required. Experience shall have included decision making authority during patient care. Must be approved by Manatee County EMS Medical Director. *
* Note: This excludes Manatee County EMS (MCEMS) employees progressing through the established career ladder. For these internal candidates MCEMS EMT experience may be included toward experience requirement.
Certifications/Licenses Required
- Florida Paramedic Certification and N.R.E.M.T
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Incident Command Management Systems 100, , 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire.
- Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Desired Skills
- Associate degree in related field desired.
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergencies for Pre-Hospital Providers.
