The adult/pediatric Flight Paramedic (A/P FP) is equally responsible for (as part of an RN/paramedic configuration) assessment, triage, treatment and evaluation of critical pre-hospital and interfacility patients during transport by air and ground. The A/P FP must function autonomously, utilizing medical protocols and advanced skills under the direction of the medical director. The A/P FP utilizes clinical processes to provide comprehensive care to the patient and documents those processes on the patient's record. The A/P FP serves as a resource for other flight team members by sharing skills and clinical knowledge. The A/P FP must be effective with communication and skills and able to work positively in a high-stress environment with patients, peers, families and other internal/external personnel. The A/P FP must also possess excellent interpersonal skills as s/he is instrumental in providing community outreach and education. The A/P FP is responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of UF Health ShandsCair by ensuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum. The A/P FP shall be a proficient team member on helicopter, fixed wing and ground transports.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Current certification as an EMT-Paramedic under the National Registry is required.
- Specialty certifications required upon hire: BLS, ACLS, PALS and ITLS or PHTLS.
- A minimum of three years' experience is required with four to five years of pre-hospital paramedic experience preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical skills in pre-hospital, flight and critical care transport preferred.
- CCEMT-P, UFCCP or FP-C, AMCCC and NRP preferred and required within one year of employment.
- Instructor statuses in ACLS, PALS and/or PHTLS preferred.
- Candidates must possess a valid Florida driver's license and certification of completion of a Florida-approved EVOC driving course.
- Perry, FL base only: Candidate must have EMT-P state license in GA and FL and National Registry licensure.
- West bases only: Candidates must have EMT-P state license in AL and FL and National Registry licensure.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
- Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "frequent driver."
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- EMT-Paramedic certification in the state of Florida.
- Perry, FL base only: Candidate must have EMT-P state license in GA and FL and National Registry licensure.
- West bases only: Candidates must have EMT-P state license in AL and FL and National Registry licensure.
